WELCOMERS
The purpose of the Welcomers group is to make visitors and parishioners feel welcome as they come to mass. We aim to offer a smile and a few friendly words to as many people as possible. whilst handing out the Mass sheets and the weekly church bulletin. This task is important, to make people feel welcome and put newcomers at their ease.
You can help by joining the welcomers' rota. This requires you to be at church about 20 minutes early when it is your turn. to arrange the Mass sheets and bulletins (and the new Newsletters!) prior to handing them out. If you are interested. contact Debbie Feehan or Catherine McGlinchey.
READERS
Readers have the responsibility to read one of the readings during Holy Mass. The aim is to read in a manner that the congregation can hear clearly. with intonation and punctuation that aid understanding.
They go onto a rota, which will (if there are plenty of volunteers) lead to them reading about every six weeks. Training can be given to new readers, plus a chance to practice at the microphone.
Iif you would like to find out more about becoming a reader, speak to Terry Larkman after Mass today.
ALTAR SERVERS
The purpose of serving is to assist the Priest at the altar in order that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass may be offered reverently. Servers are invited to volunteer after making their first Holy Communion. They receive training sessions and they begin serving. Servers need to be at church no later than ten minutes before the start of Mass.
Adult help is needed in the sacristy before and after Mass to ensure that all servers are correctly attired and presentable and ready to participate reverently in the Mass.
CHILDREN'S LITURGY
Helpers and leaders are needed to form a weekly rota. Sessions usually consist of leading the children in a short prayer. talking to them about the gospel story of the day and about the Mass in general. There will usually be a colouring sheet to reinforce the theme of the day. If you would like to find out more about joining the team, please contact Hilary or Hannah Dutton, Rebecca Hargreaves, Debbie Feehan. or Julie Couttie.
PREPARING THE LITURGICAL ENVIRONMENT
Often the task involves working a s a member of a team to prepare the church for a series of celebrations during a particular season or celebration. This sometimes involves preparing the flowers, creating banners. setting up displays and so on. If you would like to be involved in this type of work, contact Agnes Nattrass or Debbie Feehan.
CHURCH MUSIC
The role of the Music Minister is to support the congregation in singing the songs, responses and acclamations, which are chosen to support the theme of the Liturgies. The choir sing at 9.30 mass except when there is a school mass or when the Music Group is playing. The Music Group consists of singers and instrumentalists of all ages, who rehearse on Tuesdays from 6.00 till 7 00 in the church. We play at 9.30 mass on the last Sunday in the month.
